Abstract Diarrheal disease in India—especially among children under five—persists despite WASH programs due to unsafe water, uneven sanitation, low ORS–zinc use, and antimicrobial resistance. We assess biotechnology solutions: CRISPR/mNGS diagnostics, novel vaccines, precision therapeutics, and community bioremediation/biosensors, with state-specific plans for Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal. BIDCP pilots cut severe hospitalizations, antibiotic use, and outbreak recurrence. Barriers include biosafety, regulation, infrastructure, acceptance, and uncertain long‑term cost-effectiveness. Embedding synthetic biology, precision public health, and digital platforms into health and WASH systems can accelerate equitable progress toward UHC and the SDGs. The current paper tries to do a comprehensive review on Biotechnological advancement to combat with the situation.
Keywords Diarrheal Disease, Biotechnology, Molecular Diagnostics, Antimicrobial Resistance, Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH).
