| Abstract | The present study aimed to develop and optimize nifedipine-loaded aquasomes as a multiparticulate drug delivery system for sustained oral administration in hypertension management. Aquasomes were prepared using the stirring method and optimized by modifying lactose concentration, stirring duration, and sonication time. The optimized formulation (F4) exhibited high entrapment efficiency (92%) and sustained drug release (92.08%). FT-IR analysis confirmed drug–excipient compatibility, while SEM revealed favorable morphology. The optimized aquasomes were further processed into sustained-release tablets and capsules, both of which showed prolonged and controlled in vitro release. Overall, the study demonstrates that aquasomes can serve as an effective strategy to improve the solubility, bioavailability, and therapeutic efficacy of nifedipine. |
