| Abstract | Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is an instant payment system launched in 2016 by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), an RBI regulated entity. UPI allows users to instantly transfer money between any two parties' bank accounts. The rapid growth and adoption of UPI especially in urban India has revolutionized how households manage money, whereas the growth of UPI in rural India presents both challenges and opportunities for inclusive economic growth. There have been various studies on the impact of UPI and its adoption in urban areas and the overall economy, however the impact of UPI on the household consumption in rural India is less explored. This paper aims to explore the impact of UPI adoption on household consumption in rural India by using the secondary data from government reports, various other studies and journals. The study also explains the importance and role of socioeconomic factors such as education, age, income, occupation etc on the adoption of UPI. |
