Abstract This study looks at how self-esteem influences the connection between gamophobia (fear of commitment) and relationship sabotage among young adults. A total of 132 participants, both men and women aged 18 and above, took part in the research. They were selected through convenience sampling. To collect information, three tools were used: the Relationship Sabotage Scale, the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, and the Fear of Marriage Scale. The data
was analysed using statistical tests like Spearman Rank Correlation, Kruskal Wallis test, pairwise comparison, and regression analysis. The results showed that people who have a stronger fear of commitment are more likely to engage in behaviours that harm their relationships. There was also a meaningful link
between gamophobia and self-esteem, and between self-esteem andrelationship sabotage. Birth order did not seem to play a big role in gamophobia or relationship sabotage, but it did affect self-esteem. For example, there were clear differences in self-esteem levels between firstborns and only children. Finally, the study found that self-esteem acts as a moderating factor. In other words, a
person’s level of self-esteem changes the strength of the relationship between gamophobia and relationship sabotage.
