Islam and the Question of Identity

Author(s) Dr. Abdeladim Zehani
Country Morocco
Abstract Muslim identity is becoming a contentious topic in many nations, particularly in the West. People's opinions, personal ideas, and locales are all questioned. What does it really mean to be a Muslim? Faith is the primary and most crucial component of Muslim identity. This identity is essentially connected to Islamic teachings. Furthermore, Muslims are a heterogeneous group with many ethnicities and social and cultural origins. Humans view themselves as worthless without their identity because they are ontologically related to it. Thus, one of the most important issues dividing the world is identity in the face of modernity's fast-paced intellectual difficulties. In light of these difficulties, this study addresses the question of Islamic identity and is structured around three main areas. The first defines the Islamic identity and its traits, while the second presents the salient aspects of the intellectual difficulties of the modern day. The impact of these difficulties on the Islamic identity is the subject of the third theme.
