Abstract Recent Changes and Trends in the Family: A Sociological Study
(Selected villages of Tarikere Taluk)
Abstract:
Human society is a changing one and society is constantly changing. Therefore, the organizations in society also change from time to time. Thus, changes are also seen in the family, which is the basic institution of society. In the industrial society, we can observe revolutionary changes in the family institution. In economically developed countries, there have been drastic changes in the family system. However, in the economically developing Indian society, changes in the family system are not happening at such a rapid pace. In our country, changes in the family system are happening slower in rural and tribal communities than in urban communities.
The family is the smallest and primary group and the focal point of society. The family is the basic unit of human society and has remained the basic unit of society due to the most important functions it performs such as child rearing, socialization, etc. and due to its permanence. A family is usually a small group consisting of “father, mother” and children. The family system is very ancient. Historically, there have been many changes in the structure, function and human relations of the family. However, the family is a very important and distinctive group in human society.
