Challenges and Triumphs: Examining Gender Justice Post-Criminal Law Reforms in India

Author(s) Dr. Geeta Rao V

Abstract Attaining equal rights and authority for women everywhere remains a far-off and elusive objective. There is still discrimination through laws, policies, and social attitudes. Women around the world bear the greatest brunt of crises, suffering increased violence, marginalization, and exclusion from socioeconomic opportunities. Women's value contribution is still completely underappreciated, resulting in their underrepresentation in decision-making positions that control their lives, security, and health. India is one of the nations grappling with such challenges since India is characterized by deeply ingrained socio-institutional gender inequality. India's vision is to attain full and equal engagement of women by 2047 according to Viksit Bharat. It is critical to assess the new criminal legislation aimed at amplifying women's protection by better-providing security and provisions against rape. The law enactment targets refreshing the legal framework with revised sexual offense definitions and increased penalties for criminals, but questions about its success are still placed upon the enforcement and goodwill of law enforcement and court institutions. While using strategies, utmost care should be exercised in the enactment of the new laws so that women's voices are heard and part of discussions regarding their rights and so that these laws make women's lives better. Finally, promoting gender equality involves a comprehensive strategy that considers legal change, societal perception, and women's role in decision-making. Prioritizing these factors allows for strong prospects for radical improvement toward a more equitable future for women in India and the world at large.
