| Abstract | The complex disorder known as diabetes mellitus (DM) affects how the body processes sugar. Over time, inadequate insulin synthesis or the body's incapacity to use insulin efficiently led to elevated blood sugar levels. This condition is becoming increasingly common worldwide and is causing significant problems for both health and the economy. In addition to helping control blood sugar levels, medications such as insulin and other prescriptions may also have negative side effects, be expensive, and eventually lose their effectiveness. Due to these issues, many people are managing their diabetes with natural methods. There has been interest in the guava leaf extract, for example. Guava leaves contain numerous active compounds, including flavonoids, tannins, polyphenols, and terpenoids, which are known to offer various health benefits. Guava leaf extract can lower blood sugar by assisting the liver in storing more sugar, lowering the body's sugar production, and creating these effects. These effects occur when specific body signals, such as PI3K/Akt and AMPK, are activated. The extract also helps regulate dangerous lipids by lowering bad fats and cholesterol, while increasing good cholesterol. Furthermore, the potent antioxidant qualities of guava leaf extract shield the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas from damaging free radicals. It can also reduce inflammation by decreasing the activity of NF-κB and other substances that cause inflammation, which helps the body use insulin more effectively and reduces the complications of diabetes. In people with type 2 diabetes and those who have trouble controlling their blood sugar, using guava leaf tea or extract has been shown to improve blood sugar control and, importantly, these benefits have been seen without serious side effects, suggesting that this treatment is safe. However, more thorough research and standardization are required because the extract can be prepared in various methods, with varying volumes, and for varying periods of time. |
