Abstract This study assessed teachers' exposure and competency in teaching practical research in senior high school. The research addressed several key questions, including the extent of teachers' research exposure, their levels of research competence, the relationship between exposure and competence, potential differences based on demographic factors, and proposed interventions for improvement. The study employed a quantitative research design, combining descriptive and correlational methods. The descriptive component was used to provide detailed insights into teachers' competency levels, while the correlational aspect examined the relationships between research exposure and competence. The sample consisted of seventy-five teachers within a seven-kilometer radius of the city center, selected using purposive and total enumeration sampling techniques. A self-developed survey questionnaire was administered, collecting data on personal information, and measuring knowledge, skills, and attitudes related to teaching research. Statistical tools used in the analysis included frequency counts, mean percentage counts, independent sample t-tests, one-way ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis. Results revealed that teachers’ exposure to seminars, workshops, and training was most prominent at the division level, and their experience with presenting and publishing research was limited. But despite the minimal exposure, the result demonstrated a moderately high level of competency in teaching practical research. Teachers excelled in fostering positive relationships and sharing resources. The study concluded with recommendations for enhancing communication skills, diversifying teaching strategies, and promoting collaborative learning environments in teacher development programs. It also emphasized the need for increased research exposure, especially at higher levels, to further improve education quality in senior high schools.
