Beyond Clay: Exploring New Material Processes in Indian Ceramics

Author(s) Mr. Ajaysingh Daljitsingh Bhadoriya
Country India
Abstract The use of recycled ceramics presents a promising avenue for ceramic practitioners in India, particularly those whose work emphasises artistic expression. As environmental concerns grow, there is an increasing focus on sustainable materials and practices in the creative as well as functional arts. This paper explores the potential of recycled ceramics as a medium in India examining its aesthetic, environmental, and economic implications. The recycling process, which involves repurposing industrial ceramic waste, discarded pottery, and construction debris, offers an alternative to traditional clay while reducing the environmental impact of ceramic production. This research suggests that recycled ceramics hold significant promise for ceramic artists in India, offering a medium that not only aligns with environmental sustainability but also enhances the depth and diversity of artistic exploration.
