Abstract Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) and Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) are prevalent metabolic disorders threatening the public health worldwide. Insulin resistance, inflammation, and oxidative stress are comorbid pathways in both diseases. Yoga is an integrative mind-body discipline that combines physical postures, controlled breathing techniques and meditation, and has been established as a promising approach of complementary therapy for these conditions. This review describes the effect of yoga on T2DM and NAFLD with special emphasis on improving glycaemic control, insulin sensitivity, hepatic fat content improvement and stress and inflammation reduction. Thus, with the psychological reflections of this practice and its favour for metabolic health preservation it induces a holistic outlook on disease management through yoga. Although evidence is supportive for therapeutic role of yoga, however further research is required to develop the common protocol and long-term effects on T2DM as well NAFLD.
