Smart Wiping Assist - Intelligent Wiper Control

Abstract Windshield glass cleaning is necessary and essential to spot hazards, road signs, and pedestrians more easily. It improves visibility by arresting dirt, grime, and smudges that may distort the view, especially during rain or glare from headlights. It prevents scratches by removing debris like sand and dust, reducing wear on the glass and wiper blades. Maintaining a clean windshield is not just a good habit; it is a serious safety measure that protects lives on the road.
When a vehicle is parked for a long time, especially outdoors, windshield dirt buildup becomes a real nuisance and a safety hazard. During this situation, if the wiper system is switched ON, water is sprayed on the windshield and wiping takes place. However, if no water is available in the wiper fluid tank, the wiper arm/blade moves over the dry and dirty glass surface. Dust, sand, or debris can act like sandpaper, causing permanent scratches on the windshield.
Here, the Wiping Assist System plays a vital role in preventing such incidents by controlling the wiper arm from operating when there is no water in the washer tank. The system checks the water level and decides whether to operate the wiper or to inhibit it. During wiper arm protection, a warning message is also displayed to inform the driver about the current wiper system status.
This technology does not require any additional hardware components. The main objective is to protect the windshield from dry wiping without washer fluid. The assist function activates when the vehicle is in an idle state and is intentionally designed not to intervene during high-speed driving to ensure safety. The assist also deactivates when the driver manually chooses to operate the wiper despite knowing that the washer tank is empty.
