Narratives of Conflict and Co-operation: Jealousy in Co-wives- a Study of the Folktale Entitled ‘ Silonir Jiyekor Sadhu’ ( a Tale of the Daughter of a Kite Bird)

Abstract The Study of the narratives of step mothers draws attention from the researchers across the globe. This issues of the reality of a polygamous has found to have reflected in the oral literature too, especially in folktales and folksongs. One of the major issues in a polygamous structure is jealousy. The paper explores the pragmatics of the narratives constructed as a consequences of rivalry between co-wives with a help of an Assamese folktale ‘Silonir Jiyekor Sadhu’. The study is based on content analytical method. Content analysis is a research method that involves the systematic analysis of qualitative method to identify patterns, themes and relationship in the structure of the narratives in a language community.
