Author(s) Dr. Namarta Vadhera

Abstract Emigrants’ wives must suffer the might of pressure from society about honor and family prestige during their periods of separation. It remains their bounden duty to run the house single-handedly and adopt traditional profiles, adopting all those social personas that please. The community demands that they exhibit strong endurance in being able to withstand emotional isolation. Another weight is added to their shoulders by the pressure of presenting an image of sound financial management through remittances from their husbands. The females thus cope with the social pressures and personal desires to maintain their social status. In this paper, an attempt has been made to highlight the ways in which such women handle societal pressure and expectations in the process of international migration of their husbands.
Keywords emigrants’ wives, pressure, commitments, balance, adjustments, endurance.
