Mental Health in the Workplace: A Comparative Analysis of Self-Esteem, Happiness, Anxiety, and Depression among Government and Private Sector Employees

Abstract The present study examines the comparative status of mental health of government and private sector employees by analyzing four key psychological variables: self-esteem, happiness, anxiety, and depression. A random sample of total 200 participants (100 government and 100 private sector employees) were assessed using standardized psychological tools. Independent samples t-tests were used to identify differences between the two groups (Government Sector and Private Sector). The results of the study revealed that government employees had higher self-esteem and happiness scores, while private employees exhibited greater levels of anxiety and depression. Correlation analysis reveals a strong positive relationship between self-esteem and happiness, and a negative relationship between these variables and anxiety or depression. The study underpinning the importance of organizational support systems, work-life balance policies, and mental health interventions tailored to sector-specific stressors. The study concludes with recommendations for management practices aimed at fostering a healthier workplace culture and enhancing employee well-being across sectors.
