| Abstract | It has been hypothesized that marine sponges obtain some of their bioactive natural products from actinomycetes, which are microorganisms that produce a wide range of bioactive chemicals. The previous years, lipases have received a lot of interest among the bioactive components generated by actinomycetes associated with marine sponges due to their wide substrate specificity and high catalytic effectiveness. Lipases are biocatalysts that facilitate the synthesis and hydrolysis of ester bonds. Ester bonds are utilized in many industrial processes, like the manufacture of biodiesel, the processing of food, and the creation of medicines. This article provides an overview of the variety of actinomycetes that are linked with marine sponges, as well as the potential for lipase production by those actinomycetes and the biotechnological applications of those actinomycetes. The characterization, isolation, and identification of lipase-producing actinomycetes from various marine sponges are discussed in detail, including their taxonomy, physiology, and enzymatic properties. Furthermore, the biotechnological potential of marine sponge-associated lipase-producing actinomycetes is evaluated, including their industrial applications in various fields, like the production of biofuels and fine chemicals, as well as the bioremediation of oil spills. In conclusion, marine sponges harbor a rich diversity of actinomycetes that produce lipases with various industrial applications. These marine-derived lipase-producing actinomycetes represent a promising source of biocatalysts for the development of sustainable and environmentally friendly biotechnological processes. The findings presented in this manuscript provide a comprehensive perspective on the potential of marine sponge-associated actinomycetes for biotechnological applications, especially for the production of lipases. |
