| Abstract | This study aims to systematically examine the current landscape of succession planning research in Philippine educational institutions to identify thematic patterns, methodological trends, and research gaps that may guide future studies and strengthen leadership continuity in schools. Using quantitative content analysis, sixteen peer-reviewed articles published between 2007 and 2025 were analyzed from databases such as PNU Commons, Google Scholar, ProQuest, and ERIC. Each study was coded according to thematic focus, school type, geographic setting, participant group, and research design to determine dominant trends and underrepresented areas. Findings reveal a fragmented and underdeveloped research field dominated by leadership succession and professional development, with most studies concentrated on public and urban schools, while Catholic, private, and rural institutions remain underexplored. A methodological imbalance was also observed, with 75% of the studies employing qualitative approaches and limited use of mixed or quantitative methods. Overall, succession planning in Philippine education remains largely informal, reactive, and lacking strategic coherence. The results underscore the need for systematic, inclusive, and contextually grounded succession planning research and practice. Educational institutions are encouraged to adopt structured leadership pipelines supported by clear policies, competency frameworks, and mentoring programs to ensure leadership sustainability and institutional resilience. |
