Author(s) Ms. TAPIWANASHE MAKANI, Ms. KUDZAI MODESTER GUZURA

Abstract This study investigates the application of data mining techniques specifically the J48 Pruned and Random Forest algorithms for detecting fraudulent funeral insurance claims at A Funeral Parlor in Zimbabwe. Using WEKA software and data from 2020–2024, J48 achieved 99% accuracy, revealing strong fraud indicators including short policy durations, cash payments, and young beneficiaries with irregular payment histories. Results demonstrate that decision trees are both accurate and interpretable, providing a foundation for scalable fraud detection systems in emerging markets like Zimbabwe
