| Abstract | The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 envisions an education system that goes beyond academic achievement to nurture emotional balance, social responsibility, and psychological well-being. This paper examines the integration of mindfulness-based education (MBE) within the framework of NEP 2020 as a strategic means to enhance student well-being and contribute to the long-term national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. Drawing upon interdisciplinary research in cognitive neuroscience, psychology, and educational reform, the study highlights how mindfulness practices improve attention regulation, emotional resilience, and executive functioning—critical components of holistic education. Empirical evidence from global and Indian contexts, including the Happiness Curriculum in Delhi schools, Quiet Time programs in Maharashtra, and university-level mindfulness initiatives, indicates significant improvements in student focus, empathy, and academic performance. Despite promising outcomes, challenges such as limited teacher training, inadequate policy guidelines, and cultural misconceptions continue to hinder the systemic adoption of mindfulness in Indian schools. The paper proposes a multi-level framework for implementation that includes capacity-building for educators, age-appropriate mindfulness curricula, and continuous research-based evaluation. It argues that embedding mindfulness into pedagogy not only enhances cognitive and emotional development but also aligns with India’s broader developmental goals by fostering a resilient, innovative, and emotionally intelligent youth population. In doing so, mindfulness-based education becomes a catalyst for holistic national growth, bridging the gap between personal well-being and collective progress envisioned in Viksit Bharat 2047. |
