Abstract Ecocriticism is a critical approach that seeks to foreground the relation between literature and the physical environment. It intends to raise awareness about environmental degradation caused by inhuman and thoughtless activities of humans. Everything one does and everything one owns – the food one eats, the car one drives, the house one lives in, and the consumer goods one acquires – are drawn from nature’s resources. Barbara Kingsolver’s fiction, Flight Behaviour, highlights the realities of global warming, possible effects of global warming on monarch butterflies and also the significance of the awareness of climate change and its consequences on people’s life. Barbara describes how environmental awareness changes the protagonist’s life in a positive manner. This paper explores how the shrinking of the ecological footprint impacts human life and the environment.
