| Abstract | Abstract Maltreatment of children can have disastrous results. Clinicians have been discussing the impact of child abuse and neglect on children's physical, psychological, cognitive, and behavioural development for more than 30 years. Physical repercussions can include anything from minor wounds to serious brain damage or even death. The psychological repercussions can range from severe dissociative experiences to persistent low self-esteem. Abuse can have a wide range of cognitive impacts, from severe organic brain diseases to learning impairments and purposeful issues. The behavioural repercussions of abuse might range from abnormally violent behaviours to strained relationships with peers. As a result, the effects of abuse and neglect are felt by both the victims and the community in which they reside. Our comprehension of the variables and connections that either increase or lessen the effects of abusive events is complicated by numerous complications. Most abused children do not exhibit symptoms of severe disruption. Although there is still much disagreement and uncertainty regarding the impact of child victimisation on kids, teens, and adults, research has indicated a link between child abuse and a number of immediate and long-term outcomes. The link between the causes and effects of child abuse is especially troubling because, while some factors (like a child's low IQ) may encourage abusive behaviour on the part of the parent or carer, low IQ can also result from early childhood abuse experiences. The effects of child sexual abuse, particularly the victim's teenage and adult sexual conduct, have received a lot of attention in recent years. The immediate and long-term effects of physical abuse and neglect of children have received less attention. There is little question that the phenomena of child abuse and neglect raises a number of legal and human rights concerns. These concerns will be the main emphasis of this study, which will also go into detail about the different types of child abuse and neglect. The effectiveness of current legislation pertaining to child abuse and neglect will also be a focus of this study. |
