| Abstract | This comprehensive research paper examines the multifaceted role of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), India's largest student organisation with over 5.5 million members, in facilitating holistic development of youth across India. Employing a robust mixed-methods approach incorporating semi-structured interviews with 80 ABVP members from eight universities and extensive secondary analysis, this study applies the Positive Youth Development (PYD) framework to evaluate ABVP's developmental interventions. The research reveals that while ABVP's social activism garners significant attention, its systematic personality development programs, social service initiatives, cultural integration and psycho-social activities constitute a substantial non-formal education ecosystem. Through structured analysis of programs including Students' Experience in Inter-State Living (SEIL), National Kala Manch and specialised platforms like Think India, Jigyasa, Shodh, Pharma Vision, Sevaarth Vidhyarthi, AgriVision and MeDeVision etc. The study demonstrates how ABVP cultivates the Five Cs of PYD: Competence, Confidence, Connection, Character and Caring. The findings contribute to understanding student organisations as pivotal non-formal educational actors while highlighting the complex intersection of socio-political ideology and youth development in contemporary India. |
