Abstract In the electoral process of all democracies, a voter makes two basic decisions regarding elections. At first, he decides whether he will vote or not. If he decides to vote, then he has to decide to which party and or candidate he will support. Indian society and politics are unique in nature because of the caste structure. The caste factor has occupied a prime place in academic analysis and political discourses in Indian politics. Although most politicians would affirm that the goal of India is to build an egalitarian society, the caste factor invariably enters their electoral calculations. Nonetheless, some people would argue that the role of caste has been overemphasised and that Indian voters have been exercising their franchise based on considerations other than caste. The prime objective of this research paper is to analyse the social background and voting preference in Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections from 2014 to 2024. It is observed that the importance of caste in Andhra Pradesh politics suggests that parties will continue to rely on caste-based strategies to mobilise support.
