Manufacturing 4.0 - Impact of Investments in Big Data-Driven Supply Chain on Firm Performance: An Empirical Investigation in the Indian Automotive Sector

| Abstract | The given paper explores socio-ecological, organizational, and technological factors that affect the implementation of the Manufacturing 4.0 practices, specifically, the investment in big data-based supply chain systems and its effect on the performance of the firms within the Indian automotive industry. This study evaluates the production patterns, operational efficacy and sustainability of manufacturing interventions based on the impact of technological infrastructure, organizational preparedness, and policy endorsement. It is based on a synthesis of more than 50 peer-reviewed articles. It was a mixed-method study design, involving quantitative analysis of 633 respondents in the industry via survey, and qualitative interviews with several major stakeholders in an effort to both measure results and provide a context. The results because the investments in big data analytics have a great impact on the supply chain performance through operational efficiency, speed of decision making, and responsiveness to the market dynamics. To sum up, this research paper is valuable in terms of theory and practice as it provides a sound conceptual framework and empirical data on the drivers and effects of big data-based investments in the supply chains of Manufacturing 4.0. The longitudinal design, cross sector validation and multi-level analysis of the findings should be prioritized in future studies to enhance generalizability and applicability of findings. |
