| Abstract | In coronary artery disease (CAD), atherosclerosis develops in the coronary arteries, causing them to become narrowed or blocked When a coronary artery is narrowed or blocked, blood flow to the area of the heart supplied by that artery is reduced. If the remaining blood flow is inadequate to meet the oxygen demands of the heart, the area may become ischemic and injured and myocardial infarction (MI) may result. The aim of this study was to assess the knowledge and practice regarding prevention of coronary artery disease among middle aged population with view to develop guidelines. A study was conducted through quantitative (non-experimental) research approach and descriptive survey design. The 100 samples were selected through non-probability- convenience sampling technique from Rander urban area of Surat city. A multiple-choice questionnaire was used to assess the knowledge and checklist to assess the expressive practice regarding prevention of coronary artery disease. The responses were analysed by using descriptive statistics (Mean, Standard deviation, Frequency, Percentage) and inferential statistics (‘chi-square’). This study findings revealed that out of 100 middle aged persons, 60(60%) of persons had poor knowledge, 32 (32%) persons had average knowledge, 8(8%) persons of them had good knowledge and 47 (47%) Samples had poor practice, 52 (52 %) samples had average practice and 01 (01 %) samples had good practice regarding prevention of coronary artery diseases. |
