Issues in India-Canada Relations

| Abstract | This paper examines the major fault-lines in India-Canada relations from an Indian realist viewpoint: the challenge of anti-India separatist extremism operating from Canada, bilateral diplomatic reciprocity and sovereignty concerns, foreign interference and intelligence trust deficits, economic and trade leverage, and diaspora governance and dual-loyalty issues. It argues that Canada has repeatedly failed to fulfil its responsibilities as a host state to extremist anti-India elements, and that India must adopt firmer policy responses to protect its national security and dignity. The recommendations propose a strategic posture of conditional engagement: economic cooperation is possible, but only if Canada addresses India’s core red lines. |
