| Abstract | In the present scenario due to the high cost of agro based industrial products, the feed to be provided to Cattle, Poultry and Fish has been enhanced and the expenditure incurred on the feed provided by the marginal formers becomes high. To minimize the cost of the conventional feed, an alternative feed source is necessary. Azolla has become an excellent nutritional source to the Cattle, Poultry and Fish and is a low cost investment product and thereby minimize the expenditure of the conventional feed by the marginal formers especially from the rural areas. In the present research programme three study areas from rural background are selected and the target beneficiaries were identified and self help groups are formed and were given awareness, training and practice sessions were conducted and given skill based support for cultivation of azolla. The identified target beneficiaries successfully cultivated the azolla in small tanks. They provided azolla by minimizing the conventional feed and there by getting the monitory benefits. The analytical results generated by proximate analysis of the wet and dry azolla samples revealed the nutritional of potential of azolla cultivated by marginal formers in the study areas. The mineral content in azolla samples are analysed by ICP-MS technique. |
