| Abstract | Background and Objectives: Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) occurs when the arteries supplying blood to the heart become narrowed or blocked, and Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) is the most widely used treatment. However, this procedure often causes discomfort or pain, and the Valsalva maneuver is used as an intervention because it is effective in reducing pain. This objectives of the study includes to assess and compare the post test level of pain and biophysiological parameter during arterial sheath removals between study and control group, to evaluate effectiveness of valsalva maneuver on pain and biophysiological parameter during arterial sheath removal in study group, to correlate level of pain and biophysiological parameter and to associate level of pain and biophysiological parameter with sociodemographic and clinical variables. Methods: This study followed a quasi-experimental research design with a pre- and post-test approach. A total of 64 participants were selected using purposive sampling and assigned in control and study group. Pain level, heart rate, and systolic and diastolic blood pressure were measured before and after the arterial sheath was removed. During the procedure, participants in the study group performed the Valsalva Maneuver once, holding their breath for 10 to 20 seconds, while those in the control group followed the standard hospital protocols. Results: The findings of the study showed that both groups had similar pain, heart rate, and blood pressure levels before the intervention. However, after the intervention, the study group experienced a noticeable reduction in level of pain, Heart Rate, and systolic and diastolic Blood P compared to the control group. A significant positive correlation was observed between pain level and HR, as well as between pain and systolic and diastolic Blood Pressure. Conclusion: The study concluded that The Valsalva maneuver is highly effective in reducing pain, provided the patient has no history or signs of hemodynamic instability. |
