| Abstract | The Rythu Bandhu Scheme (RBS), launched by the Government of Telangana in May 2018, represents India's pioneering large-scale Farmer Investment Support Scheme utilizing Direct Benefit Transfer mechanisms. This study comprehensively evaluates the scheme's architecture, economic effectiveness, equity implications, and sustainability challenges over a six-year implementation period (2018-2024). Employing secondary data analysis from official government reports, statistical abstracts, and agricultural databases, the research examines beneficiary coverage trends, financial disbursement patterns, sectoral growth indicators, and socio-economic impacts. The findings reveal that RBS successfully injected over ₹72,910 crores into the rural economy, covering approximately 70 lakh farmers across 154 lakh acres by 2023, resulting in a 149% increase in Agriculture Gross State Value Added (GSVA). However, critical structural deficiencies—including systematic exclusion of tenant farmers (20-30% of cultivators), regressive benefit distribution favoring large landowners, and absence of environmental conditionalities—severely compromise the scheme's equity and long-term sustainability. The study concludes with evidence-based policy recommendations for restructuring the scheme toward inclusive, fiscally sustainable, and ecologically responsible agricultural support. |
