Child Labor in India: Causes, Consequences and Prevention Act

Abstract For a child, childhood is the most crucial stage to develop their intellectual, physical and social development as it holds the potential to the future of any society. Child labour is among the many challenges that the world experiences, where children are forced to work from a young age. This paper gives importance on various aspects of child labour in India. It includes various causes like poverty, lack of educational resources, low family income, social and economic backwardness, illiteracy etc., along with consequences of child labour such as injuries, abuses, cuts, burns, tiredness, drugs and alcoholism, physical abuse etc. This paper also studies the steps taken by the Indian Government through various programs, policies and schemes, NGOs and National legislations that have contributed to the issue of child labour and these initiatives also protect the rights of children and eliminate child labour from India.
