The Psychology of streaming: How Netflix turns human behavior into predictable profits

Author(s) Ms Tanishka Gupta, Ms. Gagandeep Sodhi
Country India
Abstract The research paper emphasizes assessing the psychological and business methods behind the success of streaming services like Netflix, as it was the finely crafted 'product' in the 'comfort, control, and choice' orientation in which the services are meant to elicit as opposed to any other purpose. It demonstrates their business practice in the model of subscription, whereby they manipulate human psychology to produce a profitable revenue stream and predictable profit based on human attention and human habits. The implication in the paper is that if these subscription TV and streaming companies are going to make the most amount of money, they need to start paying attention to the human mind and the human mind's internal cognitive responses to their 'product' and not only rely on data/statistics. Doing so will have to do with maximizing revenue, maintaining market dominance, and predicting future earnings.
