Feminist Mythmaking, Queer Identity, and Cultural Hybridity in Suniti Namjoshi’s The Conversations of Cow

Author(s) Ms. Rachana Pareek, Dr. Devendra Kumar Sharma
Country India
Abstract The paper adopts the feminist literary theory, queer theory, postcolonial feminism, and revisionist mythmaking as the basis of how Namjoshi employs animal symbolism, magic realism, and metafiction to discard essentialist beliefs surrounding gender and sexuality. The fact that the novella is set in Canada and the theme of diasporic consciousness also makes the novel more thematically broad, as it addresses the intersectionality of race, gender, and sexual orientation. The Conversations of Cow is not only a literary experiment but also a philosophical and political statement which reclaims narrative space on the behalf of marginalized voices and renegotiates the boundaries of marginalized identities and storytelling.
