| Abstract | Menopause marks the permanent cessation of menstruation and is accompanied by various physical, psychological, and social changes. Women often experience symptoms such as mood swings, depression, anxiety, and social isolation. Understanding menopausal women's opinions on postmenopausal care and preventive strategies is crucial for improving their quality of life. Objectives: To identify the perception of psychological and social problems among menopausal women. To develop a grounded theory based on menopausal women's opinions regarding postmenopausal care and preventive measures. Research Approach and Design: A descriptive qualitative research approach with grounded theory methodology was employed. Data were collected using structured in-depth interviews from 30.00 menopausal women aged 45-60 years in a selected community in Mangalore. Data Collection and Analysis: Participants were selected using snowball sampling. Data were analyzed through open and axial coding to generate categories and formulate a substantive theory related to menopausal women’s psychosocial experiences. Major Findings: Two major problem categories emerged: psychological problems (fear, depression, mood swings, lack of concentration) and social problems (lack of support, dissatisfaction, shyness, lack of communication). Preventive measures recommended include social engagement, stress reduction techniques, family support, healthy lifestyle adaptations, and improved communication. Conclusion: The study reveals significant psychological and social challenges faced by menopausal women. Postmenopausal care protocols focusing on education, social support, and coping strategies are recommended to enhance wellbeing. Nurses and healthcare providers play a pivotal role in implementing these measures. |
