Land Capability Classification and Integrated Development plan for Kakodonga River Basin of Assam-Nagaland, India

Author(s) Dr. Rana Bora
Country India
Abstract Land Capability Classification (LCC) is an exercise for interpretative, grouping and grading of soils according to their potentialities and limitations. It helps to organize significant soil factors for conservation. (Stallings J. H., 1957). The Soil Conservation Service (SCS) of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has done a pioneering work on land capability classification (Klingbiel and Montgomery,1961). The planner may adopt land use plan depending upon such classifications. LCC is also forms the basis of all watershed level development programs. In this paper an attempt has been made to classify the land capability of Kakodonga river basin on the basis of different criteria such as relief, slope, drainage, landform, soil, geology, Land Use Land Cover (LULC), hydrogeomorphology, intensity of soil erosion etc. GIS and Remote Sensing techniques are used to find out the suitable land capability classification.
Keywords LCC, relief, landform, LULC, GIS, Remote Sensing etc.
