Synthesis, Characterization and Antimicrobial Activity of Thiazolidine Derivative

Abstract Sulfadiazine (1) on reaction with chloroacetyl chloride yielded 2-chloro-N-(4-(N-(pyrimidin-2-yl)sulfamoyl)phenyl)acetamide (2), which when reacted with NH4SCN yielded 4-((4-oxo thiazolidin-2-ylidene)amino)-N-(pyrimidin-2-yl)benzenesulfonamide (3), compound 3 on reacted with aryl diazonium salt (4a-g) yielded 4-(4-oxo-5-(2-arylhydrazono)thiazolidin-2-ylidene)amino-N-(pyrimidin-2-yl)benzenesulfonamide (5a-g). All the novel compounds were characterized by elemental analysis a well as spectral study and confirmed the predicted structure. Antimicrobial Activity of all synthesized compounds was also carried out. All the compound showed moderate to good antimicrobial activity.
