Reflection of Gandhian Ideologies in ‘Kanthapura’ by Raja Rao

Abstract Raja Rao is one of most well known Indian English novelists with a considerable talent. He, along with Mulk Raj Anand, R.K. Narayan has laid a solid foundation for the Indian English novels. He has left an indelible mark as a post-colonial writer. Raja Rao has played a key role in the growth of Indian English novels genre. He has written in English with Indian content. The present paper depicts the pre- independence days. In it, Raja Rao explores the events that took place during the colonial era. Being a participant in the national movement, the novelist has presented pre-independence days at macro level. The gory days of Colonial era has been presented through life- like characters. The theme, characters and narrative style are unique in the novel.The novelist has presented colonial days in a realistic way.
