| Abstract | Neck pain is a common musculoskeletal complaint among nail artists due to prolonged static postures, repetitive hand movements, and inadequate workplace ergonomics. The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of a structured neck-exercise program combined with ergonomic advice on reducing neck pain and disability among nail artists in Pune. A pre–post experimental design was used with a sample size of 30 professional nail artists. Baseline assessment was conducted using the Numeric Pain Rating Scale (NPRS) to measure pain intensity and the Neck Disability Index (NDI) to assess functional disability related to neck symptoms. Participants underwent a four-week intervention program that included targeted neck isometric exercises, chin-tucks, neck stretching routines, and shoulder protraction–retraction exercises. In addition, individualized ergonomic advice was provided, focusing on optimal workstation height, proper back and neck alignment, frequent micro-breaks, and correct hand positioning during nail art procedures. The goal of the intervention was to enhance cervical muscle endurance, improve postural awareness, and minimize mechanical strain during work. After four weeks, participants were reassessed using the same NPRS and NDI scales. The post-intervention results demonstrated a significant reduction in both pain intensity and neck-related disability, indicating notable clinical improvement. Most participants reported decreased stiffness, increased neck mobility, and better tolerance for work tasks. The combination of strengthening, stretching, and posture-corrective exercises, along with ergonomic modifications, proved effective in addressing the underlying factors contributing to neck pain. In conclusion, this study highlights that a simple, structured neck-exercise regimen paired with ergonomic guidance can substantially reduce neck pain and improve functional outcomes in nail artists. Implementing such preventive strategies within the beauty industry can promote better musculoskeletal health, reduce work-related discomfort, and enhance occupational well-being for professionals exposed to prolonged static postures. |
