Comparative Study of Road Infrastructure:Internationl Cities vs Indian Cities(Pune,Mumbai)

Author(s) Mr. Vikas Navanath Dhakane, Prof. (Dr.) Siddharth Jabade
Country India
Abstract There is a large and quantifiable gap between the road networks of Indian cities like Mumbai and Pune and those of international benchmarks like London and Singapore. This gap exists in road length per capita, overall road density, and observed quality and maintenance standards. While construction costs in Indian cities are high, the persistent quality issues suggest that budgets are often consumed in a reactive cycle of repair rather than in proactive asset management. To improve this situation, Indian cities require a paradigm shift. This must include better data collection, integrated urban planning, a switch to proactive maintenance, and sufficient, efficiently managed investment. Integrating land use, transport, and drainage planning is also a vital component of a long-term solution.
