| Abstract | Ayurveda, which originated in India around 1500 BC, is increasingly favoured for its natural approach to medicine. However, recent cases of Adverse Drug Reactions (ADR) have raised concerns about the safety of Ayurvedic treatments. To address these issues, pharmacovigilance has emerged as a vital practice in Ayurveda, focusing on the monitoring and prevention of adverse effects associated with these medicinal products. Its primary goal is to enhance patient care and rational drug use, emphasizing the importance of continuous surveillance in clinical settings. The growing popularity of Ayurvedic medicines worldwide, coupled with their use alongside synthetic drugs, has heightened the potential for harmful interactions. Consequently, there is a pressing need for a robust pharmacovigilance system. In 2008, the IPGT&RA in Jamnagar initiated the National Pharmacovigilance Program for ASU Drugs, aimed at boosting confidence in Ayurvedic preparations and increasing their acceptance. |
