Solid Waste Management Practices of Selected Barangays in Cagwait, Surigao del Sur

| Abstract | This study aimed to know the solid waste management practices of the selected Barangays in the municipality of Cagwait, Surigao del Sur. This study utilized descriptive and analysis method that distributed a researcher-made survey questionnaire 200 respondents from the selected Barangays of Cagwait, Surigao del Sur to gather data and information concerning the solid waste management practices. Waste management practices across five barangays were most of the respondents were adults aged 31 and above or 78%, predominantly married or 82%, female or 62.5%, and college educated or 65.50%, indicating informed decision makers in waste related activities. Majority of households generated less than 1 kg of waste daily or 64.50%, with plastic bins or 51.50% as the primary storage method. Collection and hauling emerged as the dominant waste management strategy, while composting and other eco-friendly practices were minimally adopted. Although 70% rated waste management as Good, awareness remains limited as 30% were not informed and 16% had no idea about existing practices. These results highlight the need for stronger information campaigns and promotion of sustainable waste initiatives. |
