| Abstract | Countries all over are working to cut down rate of unemployment. Employment is essential as it help reduce poverty. It also boosts a nation’s development index. Nabard’s SHG bank linkage (SHG-BL) program is such effort which supports this cause through financial inclusion. It aims to fight poverty by offering credit and skill-building programs. After more than thirty years of working and made a mark with a sizable loan portfolio. Large loans portfolios create other challenges. One of which is nonperforming assets (NPAs). With rise in loan portfolio, NPA may also rise. This issue can hurt bank profits and make development initiatives less effective. The reasons behind NPAs can differ over time and between regions. Reason may be different economic conditions, area specific shocks in the economy, or even natural disasters. In this study NPAs Management of different regions are studied. Direction of NPA during time of study and across different regions is analyzed to have close look at the trends and differences between regions. The analysis of all regions in India involved in the SHG-BL program reveals that the NPA issue is different regionally and same regions can show different levels of NPA at different times. For improvement in credit risk management customized solutions are required. Solutions must be based on the specific needs and limitations of each region. And ongoing policy support is also essential, especially since the same areas showed different trends at different times. |
