The Role of Music in Strengthening Parent–Child Bonds

| Abstract | Objective: The early relationship between a child and their parent/ caregiver, is known to shape attachment styles and future relationships. There are various factors and interventions which can influence this bond. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between music and strength of a parent-child bond. Methods: Data was collected from 47 parents through a questionnaire survey which included both likert scale style questions, and open-ended questions. Results: Shared musical experiences between parent-child show to enhance communication in the relationship. It may also enhance emotional cohesion between parent and child. Additionally, Casual settings may enhance the promotive role of music in parent-child bonding. |
