| Abstract | The study, which examined the challenges of e-wallet usage and their influence on consumer buying behavior and financial management practices in the National Capital Region (NCR), utilized a descriptive-correlational research design to analyze how digital payment factors shape consumer decisions in today’s cashless environment. As platforms like GCash, Maya, and ShopeePay continue to grow in accessibility, security, and convenience, many users also experience difficulties such as impulsive spending, reduced awareness of actual expenses, and inconsistent budgeting habits. Guided by consumer behavior and financial management theories, the research addressed these concerns by investigating how perceptions of security, convenience, and accessibility affect buying behavior and financial responsibility. Using a researcher-made questionnaire distributed to 132 e-wallet users, results showed that respondents generally perceived e-wallets as secure (WM = 3.09), convenient (WM = 3.11), and accessible (WM = 3.07), while their financial management practices were moderately responsible (WM = 2.94). Correlation analysis revealed a very high positive and significant relationship between buying behavior and financial management practices (r = 0.913–0.946, p < 0.01), suggesting that improved perceptions of e-wallet reliability are associated with better financial handling. Despite these benefits, the findings also highlight the dual impact of e-wallets, as their ease of use can encourage overspending and weaken self-control over purchases. Ultimately, the study emphasizes the importance of strengthening financial education, enhancing security and monitoring features, and promoting responsible digital habits. The proposed action plan calls for collaboration among e-wallet providers, policymakers, and educational institutions to support safer, more mindful, and sustainable e-wallet usage within NCR’s growing digital economy. |
