| Abstract | Hydraulic cylinder is one of the important part of the orange peel grab system, this system is used at location where is continuous loading, periodic stresses, and harsh operating conditions like the metal scrap yard can lead to premature joint failures. This study represents of investigation for piston–rod joint connection used in the hydraulic cylinder of an orange-peel grab mechanism. objective is to study and examine the dimensional stability, structural integrity, and design suitability of the existing joint configuration. Detailed engineering drawings, measurements, and geometric assessments were carried out to identify deviations, wear patterns, and stress-sensitive regions. SolidWorks is used to generate 3D representations of the piston–rod assembly for further analysis. Preliminary observations indicate the presence of potential stress concentration zones, misalignment tendencies, and assembly-related inefficiencies that may influence cylinder life and system reliability. The outcomes of this stage establish a foundation for finite element analysis (FEA), redesign, and material optimization to enhance joint performance in next stages. The findings aim to support improved reliability, durability, and efficiency of hydraulic grab systems used in material-handling industries. |
