The Interconnection of Nature and Spirituality: Indigenous Wisdom in Mamang Dai’s Work

Author(s) Ms. Shivangi Patel
Country India
Abstract Drawing from the eco-spiritual worldview of the Adi community in Arunachal Pradesh, the study examines how Dai's narratives reflect indigenous ecological wisdom through folklore, landscape, and oral tradition. This paper explores the intricate relationship between nature and spirituality in Mamang Dai’s fictions, The Legends of Pensam, The Black Hill and Stupid Cupid. Employing the framework of eco-spirituality, the research analyses how Dai presents the natural world as both a physical reality and a sacred presence that shapes identity, memory, and moral consciousness. This paper shows the recurring thematic presence of land as a spiritual anchor. Through the engagement with contemporary ecological criticism, this study argues that Dai's storytelling merges global discourse on indigenous environmental ethics, offering a compelling model of cultural resilience rooted in the sanctity of nature which inbodies the spirituality in itself.
