The Future of Robotics: Trajectories, Governance, and Disruptive Opportunities in an Integrated AI Landscape

| Abstract | Robotics has evolved far beyond the deterministic confines of early industrial machinery, now encompassing intelligent, adaptive systems profoundly shaped by Artificial Intelligence (AI). This paper offers a crucial, multi-faceted analysis of the imminent future of robotics, identifying three core disruptive trajectories: the integration of Collaborative Robots (Cobots) for shared workspaces, the functional expansion enabled by Soft and Bio-Robotics, and the scalable, redundant capabilities of Swarm Intelligence. The study proceeds to delineate the persistent challenges—ranging from energy storage limitations and the technical hurdles of tactile sensing, to complex ethical and governance deficits. By synthesizing research from control engineering, materials science, and socio-economic studies, the paper argues for the necessity of a structured Ethical Deployment of Autonomous Systems (EDAS) Framework. This framework is posited as a vital mechanism to ensure transparency, accountability, and human-centric design, thereby guiding the responsible integration of robotics into global industries and societal structures. |
