Abstract Background: The increasing burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in our cities demands that we move beyond standard care and focus on active population-based screening. This paper explores how aggressive information, education, and communication (IEC) campaigns can effectively improve public participation in NCD screening across urban Bhopal.
Methods: We conducted a detailed analysis of real-world administrative data from the government of India’s CPHC-NCD portal covering a three-year period from 2023 to 2025. The core of our intervention involved linking targeted IEC strategies directly with service delivery points, specifically utilizing urban primary health centers (UPHCs) and Sanjeevani clinics.
Results: The data reveals a massive shift in ground-level performance. Screening numbers for hypertension and diabetes saw exponential growth, recording a remarkable 785% increase in hypertension screening by 2025 compared to the 2023 baseline. Our findings indicate that campaigns like "Nirogi Kaya" and the accessibility of "Sanjeevani Clinics" have successfully transformed the system from passive, opportunistic screening to proactive community risk assessment.
Conclusion: It is evident that when targeted awareness campaigns are coupled with robust digital reporting, we can dramatically enhance health coverage in urban settings. The challenge now remains to sustain this engagement to convert high screening numbers into effective, long-term disease control.
