Abstract The face of an individual is a personal identity in which hair plays a significant role. Premature Canities, corresponding to Akala Palitya in Ayurveda, is an increasingly prevalent trichological and psychosocial concern in young adults. Ayurveda attributes it to Pitta Prakopa, whereas modern research points toward oxidative stress, genetic predisposition, micronutrient deficiency. Trichological Society defined Premature Canities as a pigment deficiency frequently seen in middle aged people of either gender. Increasing urbanization and industrialization has posed greater danger, due to pollution and contamination of water and air, with variable both exogenous and endogenous factors, there is definite increase in the incidence of Premature Canities, especially in tropical and developing countries.
