Academic Resilience and Sustainable Universities towards Building Stronger Learning Ecosystems in Higher Education

Author(s) Ms. Sonali Panda, Dr. Megha Das

Abstract Abstract: Sustainability in higher education is not only about creating eco-friendly campuses but also about caring for the mental well-being of students and teachers. A key part of this is academic resilience, the capacity to face challenges, adapt to change, and keep learning even in difficult times. When students are resilient, they stay motivated, overcome setbacks, and complete their studies with confidence. Likewise, resilient faculty can sustain the quality of their teaching and research over the long term. This paper discusses how academic resilience supports the growth of sustainable learning ecosystems in universities. It also highlights practical approaches such as peer mentoring, counselling services, inclusive teaching practices, and skill development opportunities that help strengthen resilience. The paper argues that real sustainability in higher education requires not only green practices but also resilient minds, ensuring that universities remain healthy, adaptable, and ready for the future.
