Assessment of Seasonal Variations in Groundwater Quality Using RS–QGIS Techniques in Jabalpur, India: A Review

Abstract Groundwater quality is a critical environmental concern in rapidly urbanizing regions like Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. This study investigates the seasonal hydro chemical variation of groundwater from ten sampling locations during February–August 2025. Physicochemical parameters including pH, Total Hardness, Calcium Hardness, Electrical Conductivity, TDS, Chloride, and Temperature were analysed as per APHA/BIS standards. Spatial analysis was performed using GIS-based IDW interpolation to map contamination hotspots. Results indicate significantly higher mineralization during pre-monsoon months due to evapotranspiration and over-extraction, while monsoon recharge diluted ionic concentrations. Urban and industrial zones such as Ranital, Vijay Nagar and Adhartal showed maximum hardness and chloride, indicating sewage infiltration and anthropogenic stress. In contrast, Bargi Hill and Dumna exhibited lower concentrations due to natural recharge and low population pressure.
